Solve : ICS stopped working? |
|
Answer» This is a sort of strange setup I have. My room is upstairs and I wanted to have internet on my desktop. I have a laptop which is what I am using to post on here with but it isn't the best laptop. I DECIDED to use ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) to be able to have internet on my desktop which is upstairs right next to my laptop. My modem is downstairs and is CONNECTED to a wireless router. My laptop upstairs connects to that wireless router downstairs and has internet. I then used ICS and enabled it on the wireless network on my laptop. I plugged in my laptop to ANOTHER router which i have upstairs (exact same model router as the one downstairs) and plugged it into the internet port on my router. I then hooked my desktop up to the router. This is the setup basically. Ive also heard about something to do with bridging both my routers so that my wireless router downstairs can directly give internet to my router upstairs but I dont know how that would work but I think that would solve the problem. That would involve running a cable in between both routers. Have you tried running the ICS Wizard again? I thought since both routers were wireless I didnt need a cable. And I never used the ICS wizard.. I just went to network connections or whatever it is that shows all of my different networks, went to the wireless one, properties, sharing, and then enabled it and also enabled all of the other checkboxes which was other services that the client computers can use. Did you try to set it up again?Ive never ran the ICS wizard, where is it at in Windows 7? And since both routers are wireless can i bridge them together? I have to admit that I'm not familiar with Windows 7. For the bridging, there is a pretty good article here.what version of windows 7 do you have? Does it support bridging?Quote from: mroilfield on August 23, 2009, 04:49:35 PM what version of windows 7 do you have? Does it support bridging? The OS won't come into play there. The OP isn't referring to bridging two NICS. The OP wants to bridge two routers. That is OS independent. Thanks for the link. Ill try to see if bridging works. Let us know.Quote from: Quantos on August 23, 2009, 04:51:11 PM The OS won't come into play there. The OP isn't referring to bridging two NICS. The OP wants to bridge two routers. Oh ok thanks for that little bit of knowledge.Quote from: mroilfield on August 23, 2009, 05:35:38 PM Oh ok thanks for that little bit of knowledge. No problem, I had to re-read everything to make sure that you didn't see something that I'd missed. I dont seem to understand the wireless bridge guide. EDIT: Problem solved! I finally found 64 bit DRIVERS for my wireless adapter so I have internet on my desktop. My xbox still doesnt have internet, but I'm going to try and use ICS from my desktop to my xbox but if it doesnt work it doesnt really matter that much. Thanks for all of the help anyways. |
