Solve : Ignores ethernet...?

Answer»

Hello,
I recently got a D-Link wireless CARD, which works well. Except that sometimes, i don't need wireless and/or wireless is not fast ENOUGH. But even though the ethernet is connected and should work, it doesn't...
Does anyone know how to fix this?
If it helps I have a Gigabyte X58 UD5 board
thanks,Is the onboard LAN enabled in the BIOS?  If it is & still doesn't work, it's probably just dead.  My Gigabyte mobo is the same, onboard LAN is dead.  You can buy a  LAN card for $10-15.
This is your motherboard?
not quite. That is the UD5-A board. slightly newer, but network stuff is probably the same

Bios says,
Code: [Select] .Onboard H/W 1394      [Enabled]
 Onboard H/W LAN1      [Enabled]
 Onboard H/W LAN2      [Enabled]
 Green LAN             [Disabled]
>SMART LAN1            [Press Enter]
>SMART LAN2            [Press Enter]
 Onboard LAN1 Boot ROM [Disabled]
 Onboard LAN2 Boot ROM [Disabled]
Looks like my BIOS settings for GA-G41M-ES2L.  If you connect to router & there is no connectivity light, port is dead.  Pretty easy to test.  You should have at least 1 open PCI slot (the white ones).  You don't need to use the PCI-e slot which you MIGHT want to save for something else.aha, LAN was disabled in OS. Seems to work now.

Disabled in OS & not BIOS?  Mine didn't even show up in the Device Manager, even when enabled in BIOS.Control Panel/Network and Internet/Network and SHARING Center/Change adapter settingsWin7-64 or 32 or WinXP.  I wonder what turned it off?  Very strange, the port should always be live, cable connected or not, especially on a desktop.  I could see how a laptop might turn it off if not in use.win7 64

I bet the d-link software turned it off. Never had any trouble beforeWeird thing is, It gives a name to the connection but the name belongs to the Airport I have in another room that's relaying the signal wirelessly....

but its definitely running through the Ethernet which is definitely not plugged into the airport...I don't know anything about the MAC Airport, but I suspect the issue is with him, although anything from D-link is suspect.

If you have both hardwire & WiFi on one computer & both are connected, it should default to the hardwire ethernet.  That's how my laptop works with Win7-64.  Plug the Gigabyte into the Airport & the D-Link WiFi adapter will turn off.
