Solve : Installed ethernet card...Now I cant get online? |
|
Answer» I have a Compaq EVO D 510 running win XP. It has been working fine but today it stopped connecting to the internet. I NOTICED the green light where the ethernet cord plugs in did not light up anymore so I assumed the CARD was no good. I did hook up the same cord to another PC and it lit up on that one. So I TOOK a ethernet card out of an old computer and put it in the EVO...Windows recognized the card, INSTALLED the drivers. In my connections it says connected but I can not connect to the internet. The old ethernet card is still in it as it is built in. I'm not sure if there is a conflict or just something I need to configure. Thanks in advance for any help. Does "another PC" successfully connect to the internet (to same physical internet connection as "problem" PC used)? 2. How does the "problem" computer connect to the internet (DSL/Cable/Other)? a. Internet -> Modem -> Computer or b. Internet -> Modem -> Home Router/Switch -> Computer Bring up a command prompt and enter the command "ipconfig". Cut and paste the results here. (Could a mod move this to networking, PERCHANCE?)Sorry about not having the post in the proper forum. The internet connection goes through a router and to the problem computer. It is DSL.I had an older Compaq computer which I just replaced with the EVO. The older one worked fine as far as the internet goes. The computer is in my kids room and the ethernet cord gets unplugged alot to be used in an Xbox.I had the EVO hooked up for a few weeks and it worked fine but then just the other day it would no longer get online and i noticed the green light near where the cord plugs in would not light anymore. i assumed maybe all of the plugging and unplugging might have damaged the connectors. The cord still works fine in the Xbox. So I took the card out of the older Compaq and put it in the EVO. The original one on the EVO was built in so i could not remove it.When I turned on the computer it said new hardware found..installed the drivers..says its working properly but I get a server not found when I open my browser. Also I just noticed that the green light on this card stays on even when no ethernet cord is plugged in. I have installed cards before and after the drivers were installed it always just worked. Thanks for any help ScottHave you restart your router?Quote from: Rob Pomeroy on January 07, 2008, 05:30:03 AM Bring up a command prompt and enter the command "ipconfig".
