Solve : Installing wireless router? |
|
Answer» I recently bought a secondhand wireless router (D-Link Di-624 - an old model, but seems in good condition) to try to set up a network of 2 PCs (1 Vista, 1 XP) and a Smart TV (Samsung). In looking for info on installation, all the how-to VIDEOS seem to INDICATE that the router should be connected to the ISP original modem as one of the steps in the process. I had thought that the router would be directly connected to the internet source and replace the modem and once the connection of the main PC to the internet was made the other devices could be "tuned in". Am I right to assume this? I have tried following a couple of the suggested methods but could not connect. Could anyone suggest a good step by step guide? The hardware setup is a snap, LITERALLY. Connect the DI-624 to your broadband modem with the cable that came with your modem, use the Ethernet cable in the package to connect the router to your computer, and you're done. No problem with wired connections. http://www.dlink.com/us/en/home-solutions/connect/routers/di-624-high-speed-2-4ghz-802-11-wireless-108mbps-routerThanks for answers and links - I think I was under a misapprehension about the wire-less-ness of such a system. As the connections I want are all in the same room, albeit on different sides, I think I will go for a wired connection. |
