Solve : Intermittent Connectivity Issues?

Answer»

So I'm at my wit's end. I've been having connectivity (internet) issues for about 3 months. I run my XP enabled comp, my Vonage VoIP and my Xbox 360 for xbox live gaming.

I have been having issues with all 3 intermittently. I WOULD say that 95% of the time my network and internet is working flawlessly, but the other 5% is what's getting my hair torn out.

Basically, I lose signal strength intermittently for about 10 seconds. It happens maybe once every 15-30 minutes. It causes the people on the other end of my VoIP calls to be unable to hear me. It makes me disconnect from games (though not completely disconnect from XBL) on xbox live. And it causes web pages to not load.

I have just replaced my older Linksys router with a new D-link 4100 model and continue to have the same problem.

I never had this problem prior to 3 months ago and I had the same network setup.

Here is a sample of my router logs (which luckily are much more detailed than my previous router)(also, PARDON the dates as I just updated the time/date minutes ago):

Could my McAfee Firewall and Router Firewall be interfering with one another?

Could my McAfee Firewall and Router Firewall be interfering with one another?
They shouldn't, but....RESTART in Safe Mode with Networking, and see, if same thing happens.
I've noticed, that latency numbers are pretty high. On good connection, they shouldn't be higher, then 20.
I'm assuming, you spoke to to your ISP?
What type of connection is it?
Did you try bypass router?
What Windows version is it?I took my router out of the equation for a couple hours one night and didn't notice the problem, but then it can go a while without presenting itself. Also, since I replaced the old router with a new one, it would seem to mean that the problem is not the router itself.

I talked to Comcast.... for all the good that will do. They said they will monitor my connection for the next 48 hours and report any issues. If that doesn't work they will send a tech out (which I'm not sure will solve much).

My connections is cable intenet.

My windows version is XP home.I'd try bypassing router for a day, or so, and see, if problem still occurs. Since it happens occasionally, it's not gonna be easy to pinpoint it.Yeah... the only problem is that my phone, computer and xbl is hooked up the the router. So I'd have to choose one and go without all the other.
The line tests seem to show that there are some line issues though which makes me wonder if it is Comcast's fault and hopefully something they will fix.

It's also odd that I've had the same network setup for 2 years and only started having problems 3 months ago.In that case, you may want to wait for Comcast, and see, if they'll find something.
