Answer» I have a D-link DI-524 router and recently my dad got a new laptop. i've noticed that it is QUITE the connection hog though. whenever it is on, nearly all of my internet connection on MY computer comes to a screeching halt, while the laptop runs at top speed.
This of course makes me angry, and my SISTER not giving a *censored* about my feelings since shes the one who uses his laptop the most.
Is there any way i could fix this problem? is it my router being old? or possibly the laptop connection is unstable and taking up too much.My guess is the laptop has programs running on it that are UTILIZING the Internet connection, e.g. may have some type of bittorrent being used to download and/or share files.
Unfortunately if this is the case there is not much you can do. There are some routers (I don't believe yours is one of them) that can allow USERS to setup bandwidth limiting or caps that would prevent computers from taking too much of the shared bandwidth. Other than getting a router that supports that feature or setting up some type of proxy there is not a lot that can be done.
If possible you may want to see if you can suggest to your sister or PARENTS that she not use or limit the use of any file sharing, bittorrent, p2p, etc. on the laptop.
