Solve : INTERNET CONNECTION EXCELLENT BUT CANNOT CONNECT TO SERVER!!!?

Answer»

Hi,

Previously my Desktop did connect to the INTERNET just fine. Then my Desktop was not booting up any more so i decided to re-install windows XP Pro SP2. Ever since the install ive had problems connecting to the internet. My Laptop connects fine but my Desktop does not.

I keep seeing "this connection has limited or no connectivity" but the "signal strength is excellent".

I have re-installed my WI-FI drivers which are by ASUS.

When i click on available networks it is blank. If i press refresh it is still blank.

What am i Missing? please help, this is driving me crazy.

do you have any filtering or SECURITY set up on the router?well only the Security WEP key for my router. I have imputed this already but i cant get on the server for some reason.

I dont have any more security settings.and you added that to the wireless network?

you could try recreating the wep key on the router and reset up your notebook and desktop.Yeh mate ive done both still not working what kind of router are you using and also have you tried using a ethernet cable to see if that works. Also double check your dhcp server address and dns server address it looks like to me you have ip addresses conflicting with each other. your dns server should be different than your dhcp and your default gateway addressesMy Router Is http://www.netgear.co.uk/wireless_broadband_router_dg834gt.php

I havent tried an Ethernet cable because my PC Is too far away from any phone line (on the 3rd floor). I have always connected by wireless in the past with this PC.

I SAW a problem on another forum similar to this so i decided to try out renewing the ipconfig...

"Click on Start.
Click on Run.
Type in this:cmd
Now click OK or hit your Enter/Return key.
Type this at the command prompt:
ipconfig/release
Hit your Enter/Return key.
Now type in this:
ipconfig/renew
Hit your Enter/Return key again."

ALSO My Ipconfig is now 169!!! :
