Solve : Internet connection problems?

Answer» HI,
My desktop cannot connect to the internet although the ethernet conection is working, I can access files ETC from another computer via the network so the network card must be ok. I have re-started computer, router and ISPmodem kit etc several times. My laptop can access the internet using the same cable and router port so problem must be in the desktop computer somewhere.

Thanks for any suggestions

At Command Prompt, type in:
ping www.google.com
Hit Enter.

Post results.I am having the exact same problem today. My laptop is working fine but when I plug the cable into the desktop there's no connection. When I ping Google on the desktop as you suggest there's nothing there. When I ping Google on the laptop with the same cable there's a reply. The desktop is using Windows Vista. Can this be something with the automatic updates?TomF
You need to start your own topic, please.Hi Broni.
Thanks for rapid response. I did a ping and results were good.

I did find that if I reduced the security level on my Zone ALARM firewall to medium the internet could be succesfully accessed although other computers on the same network work with the security setting at "High" have access. ANYWAY problem solved and again thanks.

Best Regards
