Solve : Internet keeps knocking off? |
|
Answer» ... or least the browser does. My router lights are all still workinga and I still gte a signal, but neither Firefox or Explorer will connect to any sites. I keep getting this message whenever Firefox stops: jar:file:///C:/Program Files/Mozilla Firefox/chrome/en-GB.jar!/locale/browser-region/region.propertieswww.***.com The last part of that with the *** will be whatever site I'm trying to reach. Anyone know what it means? I've tried re-installing Firefox, ran checkdisk too, reset modem, and left the router off for a while. This also happens Sporadically, I'll be using it fine then it'll stop for an indefinite amount of time before it returns. OS is VISTA. I use Avira as my virus detector and Zonealarm for my firewall. This happens on my PC which is hooked up by Ethernet and my laptop which runs on the same router but uses its wireless signal. thanksSee here for possible solutions: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=934345I've followed through that, REMOVING the unescessary add-ons. I don't get that message anymore but it hasn't stopped my internet from clicking off when it feels like it. I just got the usual "page not found message" foor a while. It happened for three hours shorlty after I removed the "ask toolbar" and all that stuff, then it came back later. The NEXT day it happened again around the same time, lasting for the same amount of time. Then it happened again, this time when I clicked on a page I Quote I just got the usual "page not found message" foor a while. At this very moment, quickly run this... 1. Click Start>Run (Start>"Start search" in Vista). 2. Type in (or copy and paste): cmd /c ping google.com>%temp%\$.$¬epad %temp%\$.$ and press Enter. 3. Notepad will open. 4. Copy all text in Notepad ([Ctrl-A], then [Ctrl-C]), and then post it (paste = [Ctrl-V]) in your next reply. This way, we'll find out, if it's about your connection in general, or it's Firefox issue. It hasn't happened since. I'll try it when it does.OK.Happened again today. Did that thing and got a text document with this: "Ping request could not find host google.com. Please check the name and try again."OK. That means, it's not your browser, and you're really losing the connection. Try some basic steps... Turn off computer. Disconnect router, and modem from power source for 30 seconds. Power them back on. Restart computer. If that doesn't work, bypass router, and connect computer straight to the modem. If that doesn't work... Go Start>Run (Start search in Vista), type in: cmd Click OK (in Vista, while holding CTRL, and SHIFT, press Enter). In Command Prompt window, type in following commands, and hit Enter after each one: ipconfig /flushdns ipconfig /registerdns ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew Restart computer. If that doesn't work... Go Start>Run (Start search in Vista), type in: cmd Click OK (in Vista, while holding CTRL, and SHIFT, press Enter). At Command Prompt, type in: netsh INT ip reset reset.log Hit Enter. Type in: netsh winsock reset catalog Hit Enter. Restart computer. If that doesn't work... Download, install, and run WinSockFix: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Network-Tweak/WinSockFix.shtml Restart computer, and check again. If that doesn't work... Download Dial-A-Fix (DAF): http://wiki.lunarsoft.net/wiki/Dial-a-fix#Mirrors.2Fdownload_locations.2C_and_articles Have XP CD available in case DAF needs a file. Likely not! Check all boxes on the screen (clear any restrictions if it shows any) Then click GO! When the entire page is finished click the HammerHead at bottom to go to the second DAF page. Here, one at a time, do the below: Reinstall BITS Reinstall Windows Firewall Repair Permissions Reset networking Watch for any File not found or other errors and make note as this may lead to the fix! Restart computer. |
