Solve : Internet privacy or not ??

Answer»

I'm more CONCERNED than ever about privacy.........I asked my ISP if they changed the display name in my sent messages. They said "the display name is set in whatever program I USE to send email.'
Does this mean my real name is out there ? The name I registered with when I signed up with their service ? I had thought they were more secure.
What do I do ? Find another server ?Your ISP is correct, you set your name in the program that you use to send and receive emails, this will usually default to your real name. It should be possible to change it in your email client's settings but it makes sense to leave it as your name so people can actually see who an email is from without OPENING it. It'll only be visible to people who you send emails to or whose emails you reply to. As long as you are sending emails to reputable people then there should be no problem with recipients seeing your name, that's all they should see, no other personal info should be there.

So in SHORT, you can change it but changing it will probably get on the nerves of people RECEIVING your emails as it will make it difficult to find your emails in their list.Quote from: sherry! on July 02, 2013, 02:48:29 PM

With the recent PRISM scandal, I share those concerns. Email is inherently insecure. (I blogged about that a couple of days ago.)

My partner in crime thinks the PRISM thing is a great big "so what". But personally I still think we should consider taking steps to protect our privacy from governments that seem to think their jurisdiction is now global...
