Solve : internet says connected... however it's not.?

Answer»

i'm not using a modem..... i'm connecting to a wi-fi signal with a wireless card. The laptop i'm using is doing the same with no problems and my other computer in my daughter's room too. we have THREE computers with the same setup and only my main desktop is having problems. It started with the windows update that messed up zone alarms back on july 9th. I read up on the update and decided to get RID of zone alarms all together. But now I still can't access the web.Quote

...coming from where? A neighbour?

I'd also try to reinstall the latest ZA version (disable Windows firewall, if this is what you're using), and see, if this will fix the problem.either a neighbor or the business park nearby. And I can't seem to find my zonealarm disk that i had or my windows xp disk. Go figure huh. Is there a way that you can try to connect with my computer and see if you can find anything wrong with it?Quote

Not really, but we're having an issue of stealing someone else's internet connection, so I don't think, I can help you anymore.
It's most likely against this board rules.ok WELL thank you for your help.Sure thing I do have a question though. i live a block away from a starbucks and a library in the other direction. both have wi-fi hot spots. If i'm connecting to either of them from my house.... is it any different from taking my laptop down there to connect?
This is the only idea, that comes up to my mind:

Thanks for the help though.Isn't ZA firewall free, or you had a whole suite?yeah i had prook... another question. I just went to add/remove programs - add/remove windows components - internet information services and clicked world wide web services and tried to continue but since i don't have my xp disk i can't. Could this possibly be an issue? Quote

Those are probably internet connection offers from different companies. It usually comes preinstalled on computers.
