Answer» hello everyone, i am getting a problem from past few days. sometimes when i try to connect to internet i get an error say ip conflict popping up and the net gets disconnected and i won't get it back for hours together. please help me to resolve this ip conflict error. i have a broadband connection via switch, and os is window xp.Do you have other computers connected to the switch? You normally see that when another computer starts up and takes the IP your machine had ...your machine doesn't let it go so now you have 2 machines with the same address. Yours get blocked.
Check your machine to see if you have a static address or a DHCP. Set it to DHCP if it is set to a static address.
http://www.answers.vt.edu/ask4help/connection/vtkb695.htmwhat kind of switch is it? Does it ASSIGN IP's AUTOMATICALLY? If it is a router, it probably assigns IPs (via DHCP), but if it is just a network switch or hub, it won't. Check your network device properties to see if it is set up as static or dhcp and change accordingly.@spoiler all the steps given in http://www.answers.vt.edu/ask4help/connection/vtkb695.htm are already done. so i guess its DHCP. the switch is assigns is not connected to any other computer and its as far as i know is not a router, but the service provider here MIGHT be providing service via router at his place. How many machines are on your switch with your machine?
You machine is not releasing the IP. I would set a static one high on the list of IPs for example...
Your range could be 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.50 for the machines on your switch. Set your machine to something like 192.168.0.45.
What is the other machine that takes your IP? Does it use DHCP?
well i am the only one on the switch but as i said the rouer at service provider has some 4-5 connections to it. how can i set a static IP.please helpCan you post exact error message? What type of connection is it? Windows version? The message displayed is an windows alert at the right bottom of SCREEN in taskbar. it says IP conflict some other computer is trying to use your IP . something of the above sort is displayed.. can i be any other computer trying to hack my IP and use my internet?
Quote something of the above sort is displayed.. My question was: "Can you post exact error message? " Can't you tell the difference between "exact", and "something of the above sort"?
I asked two other questions. No answer.
I do NOT have crystal ball.Well I'm not going to try to decipher your situation. Just do the following when you get this error. Go to START > RUN > type "cmd" without quotes > click OK. You will get a BLACK window that pops up. In it type the following without quotes, "ipconfig /release". Then it will take about 1 or 2 minutes before you get to type anything else. When you are able to type again type, "ipconfig /renew". Again it will take 1 or 2 minutes. This should then make that message go away and you should be good to go.windows - system error
There is an IP address conflict with another system on the network.
This is the exact error i got .
i tried the solution given by (Drivenbywhat) and it worked fine.
