Answer» Hello I would like to change my ip but not sure how to, I dont know if I am doing something wrong or if I just change. I have Comcast High internet for starters and I am using a laptop. Could someone please tell me how I can change my ip and walk me through with some steps? ThanksWhy do you want to change your IP?
As far as I know there is nothing wrong with changing your IP.
You will find[Llink Removed] very usefull.Actually Ivy, we need to know why......
I've removed your link because it may be used with bad intentions. How so?I was talking with my friends over the internet and one said he changed his ip. He has dsl and said its easy. He can do it by typing commands in the cmd. I tryed but I don't have dsl so it didnt work. One guy said I can do it to and said to download a program and change your MAC address, I did but it didnt work. I am at the put of trying to change my ip to see if I can do it, lol. Right now I dont think I can and it BUMS me out kinda. Did I use the MAC program wrong?
In all, I just want to change my ip just to known how. lol To see if I can. Really no reason other than learning.Dude, why bother so much....Just GO to google and type 'How to change my IP' the first link that comes up is the *censored* lol.I tryed them all and they didnt work for me. I really think the only way is to call up comcast and ask them to do it, lol. But I won't go that far because everyone says its so easy to do it. If its so easy, why cant I? hahaahCome on!!!!!! It's easy!!!!!! Just call your ISP and tell them to do it for you,and to LEARN you'll have to keep trying ........can't say more since the respectable mod Carbondudeoxide doubts your intentions!!Well I cant prove this is not for any bad reasons or good ones. You would have to take my word on it, but I guess you wont. I won't call my isp to change my ip. The HASSLE of waiting on hold, then finding out comcast wont do it for some reason. Even if they did change it, it would defeat the purpose. I wanted to learn how to do, not have another person do it for me. I get a new ip and what now? I got a new ip..... If I LEARNED how to do it, then I learned something new that might help me later on in the future. Change your MAC address? Is it not built into your hardware? I don't think you can change it.
Anyways, we cannot confirm what your intentions are, and even if your intentions were justified this is a public forum viewable by anyone.
Sorry bud.Carbon is right. You can not change the MAC address as it is a ROM chip on the network card.
Alan <>< and there is no good reason to change your IP, unless your trying to be deceitful towards something that knows and prevents your IP- such as a forum or a government block.
If your using a router then your router has your WAN facing IP, and your PC has a network address with regards to the router, so changing your IP there would likely confuse the router. a Router, though, can be made to mirror a MAC address you specify- mostly for the use of using a internet connection setup previously with a single computer.Ok why would you want to change your MAC address unless your doing somthing you shouldnt.
For your IP address I will tell you how to change your local IP address (the one on your home LAN) goto "start/Control Panel/ Network connections" now right click the connection that you are using and select properties. now select internet protocals TCP/IP an then select properties. select the setting which says "use the following IP address" then simply fill in the details.....If you don't know any thing about TCP/IP then just leave it
oh and your friends were only renewing there local IP address not there external IP address this can be done by going into command promt and typing ipconig /release and then ipconfig /renew but there isnt much point unless your testing your network settings
hope this helps
