Answer» Hello,
Lately I've been experiencing some serious internet related problems, being high lag spikes (constant 30ms shoots to 150+ for a second or 10, repeated every 40 seconds or so) and irregular connection (being a constant ping of... let's say numbers you'd not believe). I have already figured out it's an intern problem, as both my LAN PC and my wireless laptops have no internet problems. I've already replaced my network adapter (by an USB one, to make place for a second vid card), and that hasn't resolved anything either. I've run a Ping Monitor gadget in Win7 to visualise the problem:
My connection being irregular: http://gyazo.com/df4460f87de77e6f18a2417c9f1c0b0c Lag spikes on a regular base: http://gyazo.com/f5bbf9c31959bfaa204b8a332e232143
I have run a network monitor capture during one of the lag spikes, which looked like this: http://gyazo.com/6874b1471ff7bd08e495ab73d34ce171 (the object beneath it was "other trafic", which was empty for those wondering)
A system scan with Malwarebytes Antivirus says there are no malicious items detected, and important to note as well, is that there are no programs that raise in either connectivity usage or CPU usage (in Task Manager)
I run a 64-bit windows 7 OS on a 64-bit compound PC with a Netgear networking adapter, any further hardware or software related specifications will be included upon request.
My sincere apologies for any spelling or grammatical mistakes made, or any missing specifications, I will anything that's necessary at all costs.
Thanks for reading, and in advance for a plausible answer,
AciebelPlease provide information about your computer. Can you duplicate the symptoms with just one PC connected directly to the modem? This would help identify the issue as being local or being in the modem and/or Service Provider. Who is your service provider? If it is a satellite system, expect latency issues.
This is not a chart room, so hours may pass before I get back to you. So here is a other thing. Can you do networking in Safe mode? And do you have a Live Boot CD that will bring up a Linux system that can get internet via your modem? Recent versions of Ubuntu and Linux Mint should work in 32 bit mode with no problems.
In other words, can you rule out the service provider as being the source of the problem. Booting into another OS should help. Also, NICs are now very cheap and it is good to have a spare on hand. Thanks for you quick response, I have a compound PC so I will specify what I think could be useful to know. It has an AMD FX-8150-Eight-Core Processor, with 16GB RAM, a Corsair Neutrom SSD drive of 64GB containing my OS (Win7 Ultimate 64-bit), a WDC wd10ears HDD of a Terrabyte and 2 crossfired AMD Radeon HD 6800 series video cards (my apologies if I'm forgetting something I haven't MENTIONED in either of my posts). I will test if the problem still exists when I connect my computer to my router via LAN. I will also try running a virtual OS of Linux from a USB drive to see if the problem's not OS-related ("reinstall windows, that usually does it" - lostcoast), and I will connect to my neighbours network through wireless to see if the problem LIES with the computer or the router (don't tell them, they don't have to know ).
I will keep you and everyone involved up to date, and thus will fill this post with more information somewhere within the upcoming 24 hours. Thank you again for your quick response and your time!
AciebelThere would be USUAL lag spikes when on wireless considering the distance and INTERFERENCES on specific coverages for both the router and your wireless card/adapter. Check for any recent drivers and firmware for your router and card also just in case. But most likely a wired connection would solve your problem.Fixed itself, for some reason the problem is gone... Thanks for all the help, though!
