Solve : Is my connection safe??? |
|
Answer» I don't recall ever having noticed this until maybe about two weeks ago. When I start my laptop, it automatically connects to the Internet. However, I have now noticed that my connection is "unsecure." I read the little bit of info under the connection's name and it says that since it's unsecure, info I send may be viewable to others. What do I do now?? Can people see my passwords to MySpace, facebook, etc.? I have no idea. I use a laptop that is connected to the family computer downstairs. My mom is the one who did everything with our router and Internet set-up and whatnot, so I don't know any of it. I wouldn't be too concerned about outsiders "borrowing" our Internet, so long as they can't see anything we can see, i.e. passwords, bank info, etc. If anybody is using your connection, they will slow down yours, as well. Bearing in mind they aren't paying for it at all, that seems a bit unjust.Well, yes, that I would hope would be the worst of it. I just thought people may be able to see what we're doing online, since it says the unsecure connection would "allow info to be viewable by others."It just means that the data is being sent over the air unencrypted. What exactly does that mean? I hear that term often but I'm not sure what it is.anybody who REALLY wanted to could filter out your traffic from the air, log it, at some point later try to parse the data (trying to remove interference) and then try to make sense of the data stream. personally- if anybody was going to go to such trouble, they would probably go after somebody really rich. Also- banks, and other sensitive information IS encrypted via https, it just isn't encrypted by the router- hard to EXPLAIN... |
