Solve : issue with connecting to my server via FTP Filezilla or any client.?

Answer»

I consider this a network issue ??
I have an issue connecting to my server via FTP Flotilla or any client.
Nobody can solve this..issue
I can connect here at the public or any other net work besides my home.
This was happening end of last summer magically went away.  Then came back again one night during and upload to one of my web sites. For no reason. Now I cant connect[only at my hose]
I'm connected now at the public library and UPLOADING files. If shut down and go home I cannot connect via FTP.
I had Comcast REPLACE my modem; I connected my laptop directly to the modem bypassing the network equipment. And still no ftp connection, although there is an internet connection.  So next I reformatted both my laptops and my main tower PC reconfigured set my router and access points. Still no FTP connection even though I can surf and send/receive email.  With the same lap top now reformatted I'm at the library and I can instantly connect FTP, if I close down and go home I will not be able to connect  even after a new modem and reformatting & reconfiguring everything. Host/user/pass info in concrete.
Any help??

Have you tried using a different ftp client, Like FileZilla?

edit: What operating systems are you running the ftp client on?  You might have to open/create TCP ports 20 and 21 in Windows Firewall if you're using Windows...     Name port 21 "Server Request" because that's the port that the client uses to request service from the server... Name port 20 "data-transfer" because that port is used to transfer data...

If your computer is behind a firewall at home, you'll have to do some port forwarding in the router/gateway...  Do you know how to do that?

this is a strange problem i have 7 pcs on a network from win 98/ xp/ and vista
I was was "just at the library" on this vista lap top and was connected with filzilla. now I'm home nothing changed config wise ans no ftp connection get error. iv also tried several other client and ftp thats built in xp. iv got a +15 yr back ground in IT and web never had this condition. You are better qualified that I am. So I will have to come up with ideas you have not tried. You might check with you neighbors and see if they have com cast also for internet. My gut feelings that com cast has your site on a blacklist for FTP.

This is not a joke. This is happening. The will allow HTTP, but not FTP.

So if you have a server that shares an IP address, and another site in the group is a P2P,  then you will not get FTP at that address.

There is a big thing going on now about the P2P sites, Bit Torrent,  and the companies that have an interest in the entertainment industry.
Read the link I gave above. Yes, the information is two years old, but the conflict has not been really RESOLVED. You may have to sue ComCast! Quote from: Geek-9pm on January 21, 2010, 09:35:58 PM

This is exactly what crossed my mind...   Bit Torrent client allow for protocol encryption so ISPs do not throttle the bandwidth or keep check on P2P

Try to find a FTP client software that offers protocol encryption..

Try one of these: http://software.informer.com/getfree-core-ftp-protocol-encryption/

You might also try setting up your FTP clients and server to use ports other than default FTP ports, TCP 20 and 21 ...Your ISP could be monitoring traffic on those ports thanks folks....ill try reading the ARTICLE http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2007/11/comcast-sued-ov/ and

BUT !! I spent countless hours on the phone with Comcast tech support probably 15 different people on a dozen diff times. including managers . THAT alone will drive the average human nuts. finally I requested they replace my cable modem. Also many tech calls to ipower.com where my hosting account is , and the problem doesn't seem to stem from them.
Also this happend one last summer after about 8 calls to commcast tech support a man did something to fix it, he also was stumped. not sure what he did . so i got in contact with a higher level manager and she spent about an hour on the phone and this was with my lap top plugged right into the modem as they asked me to do to bypass other network stuff.
alls I'm trying to do is upload my files to websites i maintain. i used to do it at work due to some of my site were work related. bla bla. comcast is pretty much us less for this issue the average line person didn't even know what ftp was. I also tried going directly with a connection through the dos/commant prompt, ii can connect to the server but it stops me at password. and my password is concrete. due to the fact i use it at the library public network.
I have a couple other post out. so have to see whats up.

in addition the comcast guy came out gave me a new modem tried like *censored* to connect ftp HTTM was fine and email he called several of his buddies and no luck.
OK this sort a think poops me out!!!!

Oh I forgot to mention Ive tried several ports.
ii m aware of port forwarding i used to set up ip based Internet camera systems. one should be able to go to my network connection click on add new network place and set up an ftp connection its simple just type in ftp://ftp.hostname.com hit enter the enter user ans password. dint even need a ftp client. iv done that for 10 years. even though i prefer an flt client like file zilla. I have a cheap web host I use that lets me upload in a different protocol. Can you get into your control panel of you site? There may be an option there to load files without using ftp. I am not sure of  how that works.

I would suggest you try FTP on other sites. Just to sell if it is all FTP or just FTP into your site IP . Are you using a shared IP? Where is your server located geographically?

I am on AT&T and have no trouble with FTP. But the block any SMTP form me unless it is directed to their mail server, not mine. The big companies do not want us to use the internet as we want. They say they are "protecting" us by restricting what we can do.

Update. Just did some search. ComCast has been blocking lots of sites for some time. The say it is not true.

Quote
Writing in his bog, one angry customer said that recently Comcast has upped the ante and will block all email from the offending server.

The punter works for a news site and says that Comcast users that have requested daily news emails from the site and are being denied email they have asked for.

He had tried to get Comcast to look at the problem, but the outfit did not seem particularly interested. Loyal readers of the news site who have complained that their news is not being delivered have also complained and been ritualistically ignored.

After much shouting Comcast has lifted the block on the IP range. But this seems to be a problem with several US ISPs. For example, one ISP in Florida and another in California are convinced that every email from Bulgaria must be spam and is refusing to receive mail with a .bg ending.

Ironically the same mail sent from yahoo.com gets through. µ

Did you see the phrase ' block on the IP range' in  the quote above?
To find more of this, Google ComCast blockexcellent information

It's a conspiracy..    They're plotting against us!
