Now the LAN is completey slow. Can you tell me what i can do to solve this problem...... Why is it so slow, How can i fix this....... Please Help.. Very FrustratedYou need to give alotmore information to get some help. Like...
Is it a client/server or workgroup setup / what TYPE of router are you using, computer or something like a linksys / are there a lot of applications that are used over the network buy multiple users...you know, simple stuff like this :-/

At the 200 node stage you probably need to consider segmenting your LAN and installing some reasonably INTELLIGENT switches. Several questions need to be answered first:

  • how much is your company prepared to put into its network INFRASTRUCTURE
  • type of data being routed (if there's a lot of video on the net for instance, you may want to consider gigabit equipment)
  • level of networking competency available to you - you have got to the level where DIY may not be good enough, and it would be worthwhile splashing out on some network infrastructure consultancy (if you're in the north west of England, give me a call! Heh!)
But above all of this, most important is that you analyse and plan your network. Plan not just for current needs, but also for potential growth. Avoid cutting corners because you really will come to regret it. If you have to spend a month getting it all right on paper before you take a single step, it will be well worth it, IMHO.I'm so sorry for leaving out some information, this problem is driving me nuts....Teachers are complaing off the wall. Well i have a workgroup SET up with a linksys router. I have Symantec Antivirus System Center and use numerous programs actucually just basic MS Office 2003, MS Works 2000, Picasa, Intenet Explorer 7.0. Majority of the Machines are Pentium 4 running Windows XP Pro. Let me know what more u need?

10Mbps, 100Mbps and/or wireless? How many hubs/switches/etc?It would also be useful to know how the network is used, are there a lot of peer-to-peer connections, or is this a client/server network? Is all the traffic slow, or just specific traffic? This is a school
So, what kind of networking equipment do you use?
How many subnetworks do you have on this network? How many servers (I'm not meaning the hardware, I mean the software, the program that acts like a server), what kind of traffic?
Rob Pomeroy asked you exactly what you have to tell us, so we can be able to advice you.
