Solve : Laptop says connected to internet but isnt?

Answer»

This would have to be already located on my PC since I cant get to the internet, RIGHT?  Sorry Im a dumb blonde mom!

I chose both look on the internet and on my PC for updates and...

Atheros AR5006EG Wireless Network ADAPTER - tried to update but it says best driver is already installed and up to date.
Realtek RTL8101E Family PCI-E Fast Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0) - tried to update but it says best driver is already installed and up to date.Sorry - I'm the dumb (well, not blonde) this time. Right, if you can't get to the internet on that system you'll have to do it on another.

Neither the ethernet card nor the wireless card are allowing you to connect to the network. The only other thing I can think of is some software issue - either something starting with the system that's causing the problem (not likely) or malware of some form. Can we try running a full scan with Malware Bytes or Super AntiSpyware as well as your Anti Virus utility PLEASE? I saw you are running spysweeper, but still..... It's a bit of a longshot but it's worth a try.

And of course if anyone else following this thread has any thoughts....... please JUMP in.Her antivirus software including Spyroot and Trend are out of date.  She only has the Windows Security.  How would we run the other things that you just mentioned?Ahhh. Well, now I'm starting to think that may indeed be something. Installing and updating security software is a little difficult without an internet connection, but let's do the best we can.

Download MalwareBytes and install it on her computer. It won't have the most current definitions, but there's not much we can do about that. Then do the same with Avast Antivirus (http://download.cnet.com/Avast-Home-Edition/3000-2239_4-10019223.html). You can disable her current utilities when running these scans. Afterwards, only keep one antivirus utility active (you decide which) but make sure it ALWAYS has the most current definitions (most will do so automatically). How can I download it if I cant get to the internet on her PC?On another pc. Then copy them to a usb drive or a cd - whatever you like - and then to her computer and install.Okay, doing that now.  (Thats what I thought I needed to do but wasnt sure...)lolThat's fine. Always good to ask when you aren't sure. Those scans are going to take a while so we'll see you later Got an error code 732 (0,0) from malware....augh!!!!Thanks!  have a good day! That's an error updating, which is because there's no internet connection. Can you run the scan anyway? If not, let's try Super AntiSpyware instead of MalwareBytes.Yup figured that out.  Running it now and it already found 30+ infected...
