Answer» Hey Guys, I have learned a lot from you kind people in the past and I am now hoping to learn more / solve yet anotherissue. So here it goes:
I have a Dell Inspiron 15 3541. I recently bought a 240 GB M500 Crucial 2.5 inch SSD. I replaced my stock 500 GB HDD with it and re-installed WINDOWS 8.1 via USB. Everything seemed fine and dandy until I went to restart my laptop. So this is what happens when I select the "restart" option from windows:
The laptop will begin to restart and when the Dell symbol shows up it just stays there and doesn't load windows. If I remove the battery wait a bit and restart the laptop, it will go to the Dell symbol again, after a long delay it will finally load windows. It will do the same thing if I select the "shut down" option and turn it back on. (Long delay, than windows).
What I have done so far:
Updated all my drivers (including BIOS) I downloaded the crucial SSD firmware upgrade software, and it said that all my SSD's are up-to-date. My BIOS is set up to UEFI (Not legacy), I changed my sata type to ahci, and my boot priority is the the crucial SSD. I have tried repairing windows with every option offered
Please help!!
thanks all!!
Questions. How old is the laptop? (Dell Inspiron 15 3541) Have you installed SDD before? Does Dell have commendation for how to use a SSD? Did someone recommend that you remove the hard drive and install the SSD?
Can you GET back to the original configuration? If so, taht would confirm that there is no problem with the hardware. My only suggestion is to go back to the original configurations and then run diagnostics on the SSD.
Thanks for the quick reply,
The laptop is less than a few months old I haven't personally installed an SSD before, but I had some guidance from an experienced hand. I checked the web for Dell and SSD, nothing to be found. I guess I could try calling customer service. I have a desktop with an SSD and the speed really got me spoiled. I couldnt handle a regular HDD on this laptop so I purchased a SSD to speed things up. (Definitely working)
When you say the original configurations, what do you mean? Like re-installing my HDD?? If so, I dont understand how i can run a diagnostics on my SSD with my HDD back in its place. I only have 1 hard drive slot in my laptop.
Thanks again!! My bad. Some new laptops have an EXTERNAL SATA PORT. Yours does not. My knowledge is limited. I think some laptops are not suitable for SSD. But I am often wrong. Dell does mention the idea is some advertising. http://www.dell.com/learn/us/en/19/power/ps2q14-50140393-samsung
Quote In an industry-standard benchmark test of read and write speeds, the Samsung SSD–based Latitude E6430 demonstrated 6.65 times better disk performance than the HDD-based Latitude. Such a dramatic performance gain means that end users may notice their laptops responding significantly faster, enabling them to work more efficiently than before.
I think, but not sure, some changes have to be made in BIOS. Sorry I don't have that information. Perhaps others know more. There are videos on You Tube that claim it is easy to put SSD on a ell laptop. In BIOS I'd make sure that FAST BOOT option is set. In BIOS I'd make sure that S.M.A.R.T is shut off since sometimes this can cause issues with SSD's where the system is looking for HDD. In Windows when it finally boots, i would look at the event logs to see what it shows for warnings or errors. It might not state anything here since it sounds like its hanging before windows even loads, but maybe Windows can detect and point out an issue with the SSD etc.Where was this Win 8.1 from ? ?Thanks again for all of your replies
To answer you guys:
Windows 8.1 was OBTAINED from: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media and booted from USB
Also, I enabled Fast Boot in the BIOS, but I cannot locate S.M.A.R.T. in the BIOS.
Although I am not familiar with it, here are 5 screenshots of the first 5 errors in my event log:

If you have any USB drives attached, disconnect them. Your boot order is still looking for them first.
