Solve : Linksys dma2100 media center extender connection problems?

Answer»

Hi all, MERRY Christmas.

Recently bought the above item and have been trying now for over a week to get my pc with vista home premium to recognise it on my wireless network.
In windows media center I keep getting the same response:

"extender not found,
setup could not find your extender, verify the following,
your extender is on and connected to the same network as this computer (switched on and connected to "a" network)
your setup key is correct (correct)
your firewall is set up to allow upnp discovery" (yes)

The extender tells me its connected to my network although I cannot download the latest updates on it as it tells me there is a connection problem, I recently downloaded network magic which telles me there are two other devices connected to my network, one is a squeezebox classic which was easy and straightforward to install on the network and the other I assume is the extender.

I'm USING a Belkin (N) wireless modem router F5D8633-4 v1000 connected by ethernet cable into my pc, it has a F5D8053 N wireless USB adapter.

I have Norton 360, which I've tried with the firewall, on ,off, completely uninstalled, windows firewall, on, off ,which is configured for use with media extenders. Network discovery is on.

I think I may have done something wrong somewhere in configuring my network but can't see it at all as I don't know enough about the subject. Hoping someone can shed some light on this as I'd like to bore my family with my HOLIDAY photos and videos over xmas
Thanks.
Husky, did you ever RESOLVE this problem ? - I have the exact same - thanks

For anyone else that may take an interest in this problem.

I have a Linksys DMA2100 running wireless with a netgear 802.11b router. For bandwidth reasons I want to run at 802.11g and so I have purchased a belkin F5D8633 router.  #

The DMA2100 connects to the router and obtains an IP ADDRESS but that is as far as it goes.
I cannot access the DMA2100 from Windows MCE to set it up. It does not appear in the list of devices that show in the "network" (but it does when used with netgear) It does not respond to a "ping" command. Anyone have ideas on the next step apart from throwing the Belkin router away ?
Thanks

Mike
