Answer» Good day everyone,
I have a linksys wireless router connected to an AT&T modem. I have a laptop running VISTA Premium. Few months ago when I got the AT&T UVERSE service, I configured the wireless router and removed the default settings, and life was so good.
I wanted to connect a new computer to my wireless network, but since I forgot my router's ADMIN password, I had to reset it (that is reset the wireless router to the factory defaults). After doing the reset, I can see the router, and I can connect to it, but the connection remains at "local only".
Here's what I tried: - changed the SSID to the old value, didn't work - removed all existing networks from the list of networks on my VISTA laptop, didn't work - running the cmd commands: ipconfig with the "release" and "renew" flags, didn't work - disabling the firewall, didn't work - connecting directly to the wireless router via a wire, didn't work either (still shows "Local Only")
Any ideas on what the problem might be? It's really frustrating when things were working and then stop all of a sudden. Any help is appreciated.
Thank you,
Jay
You need to reconfigure your router according to your ISP's SPECIFICATIONS. They can help you with this.I kinda figured that was the problem. I called AT&T UVERSE, and I got some dude in India whose final answer was "sorry I'm still not TRAINED for this!" (this being a question about needing to REGISTER my router's MAC address or clone another registered MAC address on my router)...
Thank you for your reply...
-Jayjust out of curiosity how old is your router. Also is the power led blinking at all if so you need to update the firmware on the router. I just WENT thru his a couple months ago and did everything you did and nothing until I updated the firmware on the router.
