Answer» hi want to know how to make my laptop a hotspot so i could connect wireless with my android PHONE. i know how to make Ad Hoc, but android phone can't find it just other laptops. i am using xp and internet cable is connected to my laptop. http://www.brighthub.com/computing/windows-platform/articles/7785.aspx I do this frequently when travelling on a Sony Vaio W NETBOOK with a 3G connection. I have noticed it is not as reliable as a dedicated WiFi router-for one thing the Max download speed drops by almost half on the clients. WiFi connection occasionally drops. However, this should suffice for a temporary solution.
If you manually type in the SSID of the Ad-Hoc network on your phone, does it connect?the link is how to make ad hoc. my android phone doesn't find it, only other computers can find it. if you enter it still nothing hapening, even if i do share info nothing happens. Oops, sorry for the ignorance. A quick google search TURNS up the fact that Android doesn't display ad-hoc networks. http://szym.net/2010/12/adhoc-wifi-in-android/ This may be a good workaround. If you're on Windows 7, try Connectify.
Alternatively you may be able to use Intel MyWifi depending on the BRAND of the networking controllerr in your laptop. Most HP laptops have this pre-installed.i guess rooting is the only optionQuote from: kpac on October 04, 2011, 12:14:08 PM If you're on Windows 7, try Connectify.

I've recently used connectify to connect my HTC desire to my laptop for remote control whilst out of wireless range of the router. It will do what you need.Good find, kpac and Bevlar. A nice GUI for Internet connection sharing. However, I have seen reviews that criticize Connectify for installing drivers which cause instability... will have to try it first-hand to find out.i'm using xp, tried connectify but it just creates adhoc and phone doesn't find it. my network card is atheros, laptop asus. any other suggestions?
