Solve : Need help changing my router IP address (help)?

Answer»

Topic.

It needs to be changed for security reasons. Every time I check on http://www.whatismyip.com/ it's always the same. This is the IP that I need to be changed and apparently it's coming from my router.

I have a Netgear router. Before you tell me to call Netgear CUSTOMER Service/Technical Support I already did and they want money to give me help and I'm broke so that's out of the question.

Can someone help me change my router's IP address?

I'd really appreciate any help with this.

Thanks. Quote from: AlwaysScrewed on FEBRUARY 08, 2012, 03:21:18 PM

The only people that can change your IP is your service provider.  They usually need a very specific reason to change it too. Quote from: Quantos on February 08, 2012, 04:02:32 PM

I asked them already and they said I had to contact my router service. They won't help me because they want money and like I said I'm broke. Quote from: AlwaysScrewed on February 08, 2012, 04:13:29 PM

That is your only option. Quote from: Quantos on February 08, 2012, 04:15:43 PM

I guess I'm screwed then. AGAIN.

I don't understand why I ABSOLUTELY HAVE to have a static IP.

Maybe I will have another little "chat" with my ISP about this idiocy...

That's just one of the many advantages of broadband.  I highly doubt that they will change their policies just to appease you. Quote

A static IP from your ISP or set from your router or network adapter? They are two different things. But based on your post, it LOOKS like you are using the same IP address configured on your network as static instead of dynamic address. Quote from: jason2074 on February 08, 2012, 05:21:35 PM

Is there a way I can reconfigure my network as dynamic address?!As Quantos has been at pains to POINT out, the IP address in issue is your external, ISP-assigned IP address.

Please note that having a static IP address is NOT a security issue.  Perhaps you could explain what your security concerns are so that we could address those appropriately?
