Solve : Network cable unplugged?

Answer»

I'm trying to connect to the internet from my Compaq Presario V2000 through a local area connection in Windows XP. However, it says that the network cable is unplugged, which it isn't. The internet on ANOTHER computer in the house works good, and all the CABLES are plugged into the modem. I have tried plugging it into a wall cable I know works, but I get the same message, so it must be the computer. I have switched cables twice. I checked the network adapters under device manager, the one that is listed under network connections with the local area network seems to be working fine. The one beside it (1394 connection?) is disabled though. I tried enabling it but it just made the computer freak out. Is that the problem? Have you managed to get it to work before?

What OS?

If you go to Device Manager, are there any Yellow Question or Exclamation MARKS?You may have TWO LAN cards installed, only one is connected to the network.
