Solve : Network dial up puter to high speed puter?? |
|
Answer» I live in dial up only land but my Mom has just had comcast high speed installed. I'd like to bring my desktop computer(s) to her house to update and download programs. I'm a little lost on how to connect. I don't actually need to connect them as a network because I just want to use her cable. I tried to just connect the cable to my comp but the only option showing is LAN which has limited or no connectivity and cannot repair itself. Making a new connection does not help. If I connect the cable back to moms computer it works instantly and perfectly. My computer is only showing a dial up modem and communications cable to connect two computers. More info would be helpful. Your OS? Did you connect the cable from your mother's Cable modem to an onboard LAN port on your computer, or do you have an add-on card installed for LAN card/Ethernet adapter? If using onboard LAN connector, is it enabled in the BIOS? Exactly what is your computer's initial response when you connect the cable?Yes, I just unplugged it from hers and connected to mine while I had the network connections page open. The connection attemps to connect after plugging in the cable but kicks back the limited to no connection ERROR message. I had perviously established a dial up connection between the same two computers and it worked with a parallel cable. Under device mamager shows I have SiS 900 PCI Fast Ethernet adapter, enabled, working with no conflicts. Under Modems I have SoftV92 Data/Fax modem and parellel cable. Does that help? Need more info? |
