Solve : Network Help?

Answer»

Alright so I had a huge virus on my laptop and I lost my restore cd for it so I reinstalled windows xp pro and I did that through my ccnd (computer construstion network design) teacher (it was his cd. It was my key) and I restored everything and I get I to the regular screen and I go to run ie and it says my Internet isn't connected or working. So I *censored* around with it for about 4 hours and I see that it picks up my LAN ether net. But it's not letting me use it! I am extremely confused because when I do ipconfig /renew is just freezes and won't let me type anymore on cmd. It asks me if I want to use dialup broDband and other *censored* I don't want! Please help I'm about to blow the computer up!!!!!!! And it also says for gateway that there isn't one. Like is says gateway that's it. Just spaces. Soooooooooooo help!I would suggest that you buy the restore disks.

It soulds like your NIC isn't setup right. Do you have the right drivers installed for it?

Idk. How do I check. My ccnd teacher said my network card might be damagedWhat does it show in Device Manager?

Alan <>< Nothing. Ones with exclamtion marks are PCI mode
, multimedia audio controller, USB controller, video controller So it show the network card right?

Alan <>< I have a network ADAPTER. But that dosent have a ! Mark by itWhen you bought your computer it should have came with a drivers disk. You need to run that disk. Chipset drivers go first.Quote from: Spoiler on March 30, 2009, 12:43:08 PM

Co sign,

You say the wireless isn't picking up and your cat 5 cable is connected into the ethernet port YET still not reading the internet it might be the card.

I experienced a problem like this earlier today and it was hell trying to figure it out

when I do ipconfig /renew is just freezes

Now this part I'm stomped on, I ASSUME its because your card may be curropt and its affecting the transaction of packets (data) flowing to and from the ethernet port connected. So I was taking to my ccnd teacher today and he said it might be my drivers. So I also Hooke my laptop up to his iternet and it worked fine. I'm so fricken confused. I'm USING the same cord as my 360 so I know it's not the Internet but at the same tim I know it's not my hardware/softwareAlright so i was at my SCHOOL yesterday and i thought of something. Maybe i cant run my internet through my xbox 360 ethernet cord. So i hooked a normal ethernet cord up to my laptop and that *censored* worked. I was pissed but happy at the same time. So a lesson to you all dont use 360 cords because they dont work.
