Solve : network password?

Answer»

I have a wired HOME network for a few years with no problems. (4 COMPUTERS) My son returned from college and now when I try to ACCESS files on his computer through the network (I see his computer in workplace computers) I can access my computer from his but when try to access his computer a dialog box pops up asking for a password. (The user name is his computer name and is greyed out) have never experienced this before. Was a password created that he does not know about on his machine? Is the password on my machine? I tried every conceivable password that we both use.
Any help is appreciated.Looks like he doesn't want Mom finding his pr()n.Windows sometimes goes "amok". It would not be something unusual to loose it's security settings and ASSUME some default security settings (or random, in the worst case).
You may want to CHECK in Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Local security policy, User rights assignments, Access this computer from network: your username (with which you want to connect to your son's computer from another computer) should be mentioned there. If your username has no password associated, the Guest user should have access rights, and the required security settings on the son's computer (read, eventually write, access righst on the folders/files you want to browse from network).
