I'm currently having problems with connecting to the internet via IE on a PC I just formatted with a MS Windows XP Home Edition SERVICE Pack 2, it connected fine before I formatted when I plugged a ethernet cable (i think) from the router/modem (not sure which one) to the back of the PC tower and it worked fine, the port in which it connected to was flashing CONFIRMING it's a sucessful connection. The router/modem is a Orange Livebox.
In Network Connections on the PC it doesn't pick up any internet gateaways only 'Dial-up Connection' & 'Incoming Connections'. When I have formatted my PC at my Mum's house I've never had to do anything else in TERMS of installing any ISP software from the disc which I originally recieved when I signed up. The modem in Device Manage is enabled so that's not a problem and it does pick it up in Device Manager.
Right now I can't think of anything else which can be the problem, any help much appreciated, thanks in advanced folks.
Joshare you connecting to this device via usb. ?
and were you using an ethernet cable last time..?I think you may just need to set up the connection once more. Before you formatted you had details of your preferred network connection and what settings to use, now all these have been wiped. However, do not fear, it's rather easy to setup a new connection. First of all, Are you going to be using a wireless adapter or direct ethernet cable? Here's what you need to do in each scenario; Click the Start Menu > Control Panel. (Put into Classic View if it isn't already) Click Network Connections.
If your connecting via a wireless adapter: Under 'Network Tasks' towards the left of the window click "Create a new connection." Click where it SAYS "To connect to a wireless network, view wireless networks in range" Then click on your router and press connect.
Your Orange LiveBox supports wireless networking and is the easiest way to connect, I would advise connecting to your router using a wireless adapter.
If, however, you're connecting via an ethernet cable: Under 'Network Tasks' click "Set up a home or small office network" and follow the steps... I'm not going to bother to guide you through the steps because their are quite few and they're pretty straight forward, just remember to select connect through a RESIDENTIAL gateway when prompted.
