Answer» Hello Everyone,
New to the forums and already looking for some assistance.
My company is looking to have some INDIVIDUALS working from home, but have access to shared folders on our internal server. We have purchased a SonicWall TZ 180 Wireless with their Global VPN client software. My issue is that I am not seeing the shared data by going through My Network PLACES on the client PCs. I can use Remote Desktop Connection to log into the server and work with data on the server, but that is not helping me with sharing data.
Any insights or questions I should be asking SonicWall Tech Support, that will help me find where my BOTTLENECK is?
Thanks, Kevin CorlissI don't know much about your router/vpn concentrator, and I don't know if the PCs used at home are the work laptops that operate fine at the office. Also if you're setup with Domain logins or a Workgroup.
You may try a more direct share mapping by using the DOS 'net use' command once connected to the VPN. This should bypass the need to browse to the share.
net use x: \\172.16.1.1\share /USER:username
The router may have a VPN to network rule-set that may need to be modified to allow the network-share traffic through (ports 137 to 139 & 445 on TCP & UDP), but your external (public facing) firewall should BLOCK this traffic.
Good Morning,
Do you have a server ONSITE? Do you have share folders on the server? Have you opened a VPN connection on your router?
