I just connected a new HP COMPUTER to a linksys ROUTER (wired), I am on a dell PC that is also wired to the router. I cannot get the network too work.I do have internet connection on both PCs, When I ping the Dell from the HP.I get a reply,and also I get a reply from the router. But when I ping the HP from the Dell I get no reply (it times out).the Dell will get a reply from the router. The IP addresses I use are correct. I should also tell you that the Dell has Windows XP pro, and the HP has Windows Vista. It SEEMS like the HP is invisible to the Dell.It's not a brand compatibility problem...thats for sure.

What IP addresses do you have for the computers and the router?

The first thing I'd do is make sure you visit Windows Update to download and install the latest "high priority" updates as they pertain to your operating systems. You may need to visit it several times until there are no longer any updates available for both computers. Make sure you update your Dell to Service Pack 2...forget about Service Pack 3 for now.

If, after updating, you are still experiencing issues, please try the Vista networking troubleshooter located here.Turn off the firewall in the Vista machine.

Alan <>< I've seen new vista machines that come packaged with Norton Antivirus suite not be able to to connect to internet in default SETTINGS. Do you have the norton package?How are you trying to network the computer, by creating a domain or by using the same workgroup name for both computers? I had the same situation as you until I changed the workgroup name on my notebook PC (Win Vista) to the same workgroup name that was setup in my Win XP machine. Once I did that, XP could see Vista.I did name both PCs workgroup.The Vista PC came with Norton installed.Thanks for the help but still not working.Did you try updating as I recommended?
