Solve : no internet but is connected?

Answer»

I am computer dumb first of all.
I have vista and Im using ie.
Computer is directly connected to modem, rite now.
Click for internet, it says page not found, on the screen in right bottom corner it shows the two computers and the spinning globe like its supposed too when connected, right click it and it says its connected. But I can't go to any web pages.

I have a wireless router, for my daughters wii and our phones, And they all work, so Im sure its not the CONNECTION

Any help is appreciated. Are you using a desktop or a laptop? Did it work before? If you are connecting to the modem and another wireless router available, did you check on the router if there are ports for you to CONNECT directly? Quote from: jason2074 on July 12, 2011, 12:49:49 AM

Desktop,  been working fine for a LONG time, then did this.
I have the wireless router bypassed, unhooked rite now to keep it out of the equationAnyone?
Are you using a combo wireless router cable modem from your ISP or just a simple modem(single port w/out wireless) ? You need to provide info. on how your routers are setup and also what other things you have tried.

Does it have ports for you to connect on LAN?Single port modem no wireless, forget i SAID anything about wireless, i was just stating that wiith the netgear wireless router hooked up to my modem my other internet devices work, so i do have internet connection.

Comp is hooked to simple modem, single port, no wireless, high speed cable provider

I dont know anything to try, other than  i reset the comp and modem.
Comp shows i am connected, but will not go to any web page, just has error no page found blank screenReset both...then wait 2 minutes...then reboot the PC.You mention opening browser and cannot display pages. Do you have Yahoo messenger, Skype to try and logging in? To confirm that there is a non- connection not just on browsing or both.I dont have messenger or skype.

Ive rebooted comp and modem, no luck.

I have connection, but browser wont connect/open pages

I called isp, they said it looks good on thier end and mine, they were pinging
Back and forth, modem was responding.Try updating your Antivirus. See if it shows connection or server ERRORS. What browser are you using and is there a specific error/details showing other than won't connect or open pages? Depending on your browser's menu, there is a Menu(File, Edit, View, Tools, etc) Click Tools and look for Internet options/ Connections/LAN Settings. Check if Automatically detect settings is checked and no other options are ticked. Quote from: jason2074 on July 14, 2011, 01:08:35 AM
