Solve : No internet connection after reinstalling XP?

Answer»

I was trying to install Lubuntu alongside Windows XP on my Dell Inspiron 9400 laptop, and accidentally deleted a volume I needed to boot XP...to make a long story SHORT, I repartitioned the C drive and reinstalled XP, then installed Lubuntu. EVERYTHING seems to be fine except I cannot access the Internet through XP. Firefox is fine on Lubuntu, and my desktop has access through the same router. I've TRIED reloading the drivers, and have no device flags except a yellow ? on a SM Bus Controller (which I'm thinking may be my PRINTER?) I would get rid of Windows altogether, but I have an application that I use that is incompatible with Linux. Any help would be appreciated. You need to go to either the WEBSITE of the motherboard manufacturer or the
website of the PC manufacturer and download and install the chip set drivers.

SM Bus Controller is part of the motherboard internal stuff. Not related to your printer.I had already downloaded and installed the chip set drivers from the Dell web site.Does the internet work/not work via Ethernet cable/Wifi?Open Device Manager - any yellow or red symbols?I have both my laptop and my desktop connected through the same modem via ethernet cable. My laptop also has wi-fi. My desktop works great (I'm on it now), but my laptop will not connect through Windows, although it will connect through Linux (Firefox).Solved! I used the Windows file transfer wizard to transfer Internet files and settings from this computer to my laptop.
