Answer» Hello, I just newly joined because I seriously need some help with my computer display. I reformatted today and set everything up but noticed the monitor was flickery. I was confused to as what was wrong so I tried to look up my video card. You need the proper driver installed for the system to identify your video card. I'm not sure what video card I have because I don't know which driver is the proper one lol. Quote from: Broni on September 07, 2008, 10:39:07 PM In Device Manager, it should be listed under "Display Adapter". I don't have a Display Adapter Icon. I do have yellow question marks - it expands to 3 options: Ethernet Controller, Video Controller, and Video Controller (VGA)Did you install the video card? Are you sure that you have a video card - as compared to onboard memory? You need more drivers than video - what model and manufacturer of computer, or what is motherboard model and manufacturer? And, why did you re-format and re-install the OS?Hm, I've browsed through all the CD's that came with my computer. It's a Dell Dimension 8400. I'll try and post a Belarc scan because I have no idea about motherboards and stuff.Operating System System Model Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 (build 2600) Dell Inc. Install the chipset drivers first, re-boot. Then, install the video driver, re-boot. Check device Manager for any other missing drivers, return to the Dell site, download them and install. Install one driver at a time and re-boot after each install. Best of luck. Thanks for your quick replies. I downloaded the chipset and rebooted. Then I went to look for video drivers but there are 12 to choose from. I remember my old video card to be a Radeon and there are 6 different ATI Radeon Drivers. Only 3 are listed to be recommended the other 3 are optional. Should I try and download them all?Yeah, this is little bit confusing. Let's see what Belarc: http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html says. Look under "Display" SECTION.Download the first driver - "ATI Driver - TVT1 EHOME Wonder." Quote from: Broni on September 08, 2008, 09:10:07 AM Yeah, this is little bit confusing. yeah I did check Belarc and I posted the scan results on earlier pages. Under Display it said none. Which is weird I thought. When I try to download drivers, it usually says unable to locate the device it's working for other something similar to that. Can you download the driver? You must first determine whether it is a video card (AGP/PCIex) or an onboard video..... You can open the case, peek inside, and try to look for the model of your Vcard.....If it is a video adapter card(seperate video card),It is normally plugged in on your AGP slot (or PCI ex slot)on your motherboard, you can find its model printed in a sticker label, behind the card.... once you detemined the model of your graphics card, you can download the correct driver... If it is an onboard video, you can find it near your PS/2 ports(keyboard and mouse ports),you must run the Setup Disc that comes with your motherboard and install the correct driver for your video..... Hope this helps...... |
