Solve : PCMCIA sound cards? |
|
Answer» It's possible that the onboard sound has been disabled. Restart the computer, when you see the bios screen, hit either F1, F2 or delete.. This will allow you to enter the cmos setup.. You'll have to SEARCH around for the sound configuration and check to see if the onboard sound has been disabled, and enable it (saving you settings properly before exiting) However, if it was working with Windows 98 and you have not changed anything in the bios since then, I suspect that the bios setting is not the problem.. hmm, I wonder how it got disabled... What I did buy is in the link above for USB ports. It's a pcmcia card that I should be able to just put in the slot and up load from a CD that comes with it. Did you check it out to see if I could use it? I THINK I can, we'll see. I want to go wireless if I can. So far everything else is working correctly now, maybe I can do that as well. Thanks for your help. Have a couple of brews on me. Sure, get a wireless PCMCIA card...Get one that support WPA encryption. Not sure if all wireless cards do. You don't want to use WEP on your system. Make sure you install the XP WPA patch as well. OTHERWISE WPA won't work. I'm sure the USB card you ordered will work fine.. As I said, initially I figured there were not any chipset drivers available for your computer, because DELL didn't list any for your OS, but this is obviously not the case.. All the necessary drivers seem to be installed already.. This pretty much cracks the mystery of why the pcmcia network adapter is working. The chipset drivers to enable networking ARE installed and working, after all..Gotta go now. Again thanks for the help. I bumped you up to 43. I'll keep you posted when I get the USB card in if your interested. GaryQuote from: 69Z28 on April 11, 2010, 02:01:12 AM I bumped you up to 43. thx Regards |
