Answer» OK - here is my situation. I have a COMPAQ desktop and a Dell 600M laptop computer both wired to a Surfboard SB4200 cable modem through a Linksys WRT54GP2 router. When I left for vacation a week ago I had no problems connecting to the internet through either computer. I brought my laptop with me on vacation but didn't use it for anything other than watching movies and uploading pictures. Now that I am home I cannot access the internet from the laptop. The desktop works fine.
This morning I spent about an hour on the phone with Roadrunner tech support and their final diagnosis was that there is NOTHING wrong with the connection, the modem, or the router - so it MUST be an issue with the laptop & I should call Dell. She told me to tell them that I cannot ping even though I have a valid IP address - and that they would know what to do. Well, as many of you with expired warranties know Dell wants to charge me $40 to diagnose the problem - so that is why I am turning to you. I'll pay the charge but not until I've exhausted all other avenues.
So there you have it. Any ideas? I'm not sure what other information to provide - both computers are running Win XP SP2.
Please give me some ideas.
Thanks!Download, install, and run LSP-Fix: http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm Restart computer, and see, if it helped. If not... Download, install, and run WinSockFix: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Network-Tweak/WinSockFix.shtml Restart computer, and check again. That did the trick - THANK you very much!
I love this website!Nice job I saved you a phone call to Dell....LOLBTW, which one fixed the problem, or you tried both?I tried the LSP first and it did not solv the problem, but then the Winsock fix did.
