Solve : Problem setting up wireless printer?

I may be NAIVE here, but I've just bought a Panasonic KX-MB2000E printer , installed the software provided and set it up to work with my laptop VIA a cable. However, I WANT it to work wirelessly as well (I have a wireless router at home through which the computers connect to the internet)

I followed the instructions in the manual, and entered the IP address, subnet mask and default gateway (that I got from doing a search on "ipconfig/all"), and I thought that would be enough to make it work wirelessly.. But it still doesn't work. It tells me that there it still doesn't detect a printer or scanner when I try to print and scan without the cable inserted. What am I missing (I hope it is something simple.....)Make sure that your wifi radio button is turned on for both laptop and printer will communicate. Check Devices and Printers in control panel if Panasonic printer is present.You have a Panasonic KX-MB2000E and you want to connect it using a local wireless router.  Direct connect works fine.
What OS are you using?
Does the print not have a setup CD that does it all for you?
Does the router do the DHCP or is it done by another device? Like a cable modem.
What kind of security does your local wireless have?

This indicates there is a CD for installation. Did you use it?
Yes - installed using setup CD.  I think I was just hoping that it would work wirelessly if I put the right details in, but perhaps it needs to be connected to the printer via ethernet port?

If I do this, do I need to set the DHCP on or off?  For the benefit of all, I am posting a copy of part of the manual I found.

2.10.1 Setting up automatically with a DHCP
server
Your situation:
– When only one unit is connected to the LAN.
If your network administrator manages the network with
a DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server,
it will automatically assign an IP (Internet Protocol)
address, subnet mask, and default gateway to the unit.
1 After connecting the LAN cable to the unit and the
computer, turn the POWER switch ON.
R The IP address, subnet mask, and default
gateway will be set automatically.
2 Install Multi-Function Station on the computer that
you want to use it with. See page 24 for details.

This indicates the simple case where you only have one of these printers on the network. Just connect the Ethernet cable, turn on the power. Do not connect to you PC.The Ethernet cable GOES to the router. Let the printer find the router.
You should not have to do anything to the printer.

After the printer and the router meet each other and exchange formalities, the printer will show up on your network in 'network places'.
Install the printer as a network printer. This may vary with which OS you use.



The printer should now be on the network. Tell the wizard to find a network printer.

Or, it may be better to do  the CD of the printer maker and install the network printer using the CD. The manual implicates that  as the right way rather than the Windows Wizard.

first connect the printer with the wireless router with the ethernet cable , this will give an ip address to the printer
then print a test page from the printer itself to know the ip address
then go to the computer and search for printer or manually add the printer!!!It should be noted, also...that the drivers for the printer need to be installed on each computer that will be sharing it.
