Answer» Recently I have been having difficulty getting a RELIABLE internet connection. I know it is not the network that I am on because I have tried connecting to wi-fi at several different locations (hotels, restaurants, etc) and always have a bad connection. I can watch VIDEOS just fine on youtube, but large downloads are really inconsistent going from about 5MBps to below .2MBps and doing this in waves and I have really bad lag spikes when I am playing online games. It is definitely a problem with my computer and not the wi-fi that I am on. Currently I have a wired connection and the same thing is happening. I have tried updating drivers and running troubleshooter, but my computer doesn't seem to think there is a problem. There is an attached screenshot of a ping thing that I did. I don't know how helpful that will be. I am wondering if perhaps a part in my computer is damaged or if maybe I have a VIRUS that my anti-virus isn't detecting. I have an ASUS X550VX and I had some problems with overheating in the past and I had to replace the RAM and hard drive
[ATTACHMENT deleted by admin to conserve space]can you use Speccy and publish your specs? Speccy available here; https://www.piriform.com/speccy/download
on the assumption it's something running in the BACKGROUND (AV updates, MS updates, malware etc) boot the PC into Safe Mode and try those pings again.http://speccy.piriform.com/results/RGSEtvY3lQac6uoxHBXzcqW
I tried safe mode and there was no change.so your PING's from Safe Mode were also all over the place?
being in Safe Mode means we should be able to rule out a background process slowing you down. (although I'd personally be removing all the tasks from Scheduler)
it's unlikely to be corruption but you can try doing sfc /scannow and chkdsk c: /r from an elevated command prompt to see if it helps.
also, your c:\ drive is getting full'ish, so another straw to clutch is space, in particular the pagefile. try some maintenance, such as CCleaner (available here; https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds), it can also help you turn off those Task Scheduler processes. It's working. I don't know what was wrong, the scan didn't finish, but it's working.so no more lags or unreliable internet? dare I suggest it.... it may be early days to know either way just yet.
