Solve : Removing CPU heatsink .. need help? |
|
Answer» Hey guys Need a little help. I've got a Siemens SCENIC Pentium 4 2.0 Ghz and i have just bought a new (well, old, but better) CPU and want to replace the old one with the new one. The problem is that i can't for the life of me remove the heatsink atop the processor. The locking devices holding it in place are two AVC 50209065 retention clips and the levers wont BUDGE! I don't know if i am trying to un-hinge them wrong or anything, but i can't see any other way that they are supposed to be moved. Does anyone have any useful tips for this one? I have tried to search youtube for appropriate self-help videoclips, but they only show videos with new(er) heatsinks with fans and screws and whatnot.. i'm guessing the one i have is an older one. I tried to push VERY HARD to the side, but its rock solid, and if i push any harder i'll probably start to BLEED ^^ Here, some images.. Please, if you have any suggestions, let me know. This can be a somewhat tricky procedure. Note: Quote If your computer has a socket processor, it may have a thermal pad. Thermal pads, unlike thermal grease, need to be warmed up so the heat sink can be separated from the processor. You can warm up the thermal pad by turning on your computer and letting it RUN for approximately ten minutes. Also make sure you are preventing static electricity discharge, at least touch the metal case or use a wrist band. Drain any residual power from your computer by pressing the power button when it's unplugged. You want to open the clip levers one at a time, in opposing directions. Reverse your 'right way'. You might want to check the manual, but some are spring loaded. You need to press down on the tops, and then using a flat head screw drive pry up the end past the clips on the socket. Just be careful not to damage anything or slip and hit the motherboard with the screwdriver if using one. Take your time, apply some pressure.thank you for your help this issue has now been resolvedmake sure you add some thermal paste to =) |
