Answer» Hi all, I handle the IT for a small business, and we have a networking trick I'm trying to figure out. We have a fairly STRAIGHTFORWARD network, with a cable modem connected to a Belkin wireless router, which then connects to a switch for the 10 or so wired computers in the building, and the router provides wifi access for our customers.
What I'm trying to do is install a wired network camera in a room that has no ethernet outlets. What I'd like to do is have a second router (I happen to have one handy) connect to the existing wifi network, and allow the camera internet access through an ethernet CORD CONNECTION. The camera does not have wifi.
I am completely open to buying another network device that will allow this to happen, but since there's an extra belkin router SITTING right here I thought I'd try it. The model of the router I have is F5D7231-4, just for the record. I know I could use a computer for this JOB, but it's in a public room and there's no good place to stash a computer nearby. I'm looking either for a way to use the extra router or else another device.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions you all have to offer!
Regards,
MorganI've had a similar situation before-using a wireless router as a client for a wifi network. http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Client_Mode_Wireless Your router happens to be supported by the third party firmware DD-WRT. http://www.dd-wrt.com
