Solve : Router Dropping Wired Connection?

Answer»

I have a Linksys WRT54G Wireless ROUTER running my home network, which I just recently swapped because of this network problem I keep having. I have Road Running internet with a Motorla SB4200 SURFboard Cable Modem, which has a wired connection to my HP Pavilion a1110n PC with Windows XP. Also I have a Vonage Phone Modem(which is about 2 1/2 years old) wired to the router. Since replacing the my original router back in December 2007 I have been having TROUBLE loosing my connection to both my computer and Vonage phone modem. The kicker is that my Road Runner Modem shows a full connection with Activity, and the while the wired connections fail, the wireless works perfectly. I have contacted Road Runner, Linksys, and Vonage about these issues and each one blamed the other for the faults. I started keeping a record of when these connections dropped and decided that exchanging my router may fix the error. However, not even 24 hours passed before I had to restart both modems and my router to regain my wired connection. I'm being driven up the wall with this problem and don't know where to go from here. It's unclear. Where exactly is the router in this picture?Pictures are worth a thousand words, and MsPaint is fun! Here is what I have set up. Sorry for the confusion.

[file cleanup - saving space - attachment deleted by admin]What happens, if you connect your computer straight to the modem? The Connection is fine if I connect the computer directly with the Road Runner modem. I tried that once while I was having a connection problem. That is when I decided to EXCHANGE the Router. What happens when you use modem----->router----->computer, but Phone Modem is disconnected?Well when the connection is working, the phone modem just GOES out. When the connection is down and I unplug it, the wired connection will STAY out until I reset everything. Since I exchanged the router I have only had the connection drop once, but I still want to get to the bottom of this. I've been thinking I should maybe up-grade the vonage modem to a newer one, do you think that would help any thing? This is not what I asked. Disconnect phone modem totally, and run modem--->router---->computer setup only.I'd be interested if at any point alternative network cables have been used.
