Solve : Router issue...??

Answer»

At least I'm guessing its a router issue. Lately I've been having a problem where the connection to my Playstation 3 is not quite right. I can get online just fine but when I get into a game it will boot me within about a minute. Usually I don't get that far and it will boot me before I can even get into a game. My computer works perfectly fine and it shows no sign of dropping at all if I'm surfing or downloading or whatever.

When I hook up directly to the modem everything works just fine so I figured it was a router thing. Well I tried 2 different routers, with updated firmware, wired and wireless, with the same result. I also tried another PS3 with no change. I've tried everything I can think of like opening ports/DMZ/messing around with settings to find the problem but nothing helps. I also called my ISP and they claim everything is fine with the modem.

ANYWAY I've tried 2 of everything and done all I could. Can anyone think of anything that I'm missing? Thanks. I am unfamiliar with ps whatevers. but when i am tracking down a network drop problem (boot just don't fit the bill) I usually set up a ping on one of the pc's and LET it hammer out to keep the connection "hot". If i add a second machine and the first stops pinging then it usually is one stealling the others network address. Change either one or the other and the first goes back to pinging and then the second will also ping and not cause lockups or drop outs.

It could be that one of the units is set to dhcp and the other hard coded into the dhcp.Hello sounds like a IP address conflict. Make sure both devices r set for DHCP.my ps3 is not reading my ethernet cord. i can plug the cord in the router 2 my laptop but it doesnt read when i plug it in my ps3.

I'm guessing its a router issue.
Well, you have done the legwork. You said you have tried two of everything.
So, from your post I understand the the problem only happens when you are using a router, the Playstation and a game Is that right?
You may have answered your own question.
Routers have lots of work to do. The have built in firewall and lots of stuff that can get in the way. Like not letting some ports pass. Or pass slowly.
Is the problem just with one game? You may want to try a site that has people that work a lot with the Playstation 3. ok so i have a time warner cable router that i pay 9.99 a month for and i cant seem 2 get online with my ps3 with a wired connection. it doesnt even read tht its plugged it but if i plug my laptop in it it reads fine. could a firewall or closed ports cause this or do u think it would just give me an error? wen i go 2 internet connection settings on my ps3 it says plug in ethernet cable when it is its just not reading it. please help.. i dont want to buy a LINKSYS router if its my ps3.

please help me
-DustinIt is an router issue.
Sorry, I do not have any experience with the Playstation 3.
Ypou could buy a router that is recommended for it. Or, you could try a software program that overcomes the conflicts. I ah not way of telling you which will work.
Burt there is free software the does NOT require you to flash the router.

Some of the forums you go to try to get you to buy some software that has little to do with the problem. The forum stays away from that.

Here is a link to a commercial product that you can try fist..
http://www.purenetworks.com/
Do NOT buy anything. Just ry to free stuff. It may not do a bit of good, but it is free to try. Plus and it uninstalls clean after a two nag questions.
And yes, the Links modem is what people recommend for the PS3, but the Buffalo is aldo good
ok so lets say it is a router issue shouldnt it at least read that i have a cord connected and maby give me some kind of dns error? wen i connect wirelessly i get dns error 80710102. it reads the router but wont make online connection. its plugged in correctly. its a ethernet cable not a phone cord so please don't suggest those thingsHello

Check the IP address of all devices hook up to the router. Start>run>cmd type ip CONFIG /all
Write down the IP of every device connect to the router and compare. Write back and let us know.my ambit router wont even detect my ps3 is connected 2 my router (wired connection) theres a firewall i cant turn off because time warner does not let me alter my router settings. is that the problem? they also dont allow port forwarding is that another possibility? or do u think my ps3 needs repair? wirelessly i get a dns error 807101012. but i want a wired connection. help me pleaseee

--DustinSorry I couldn't reply, I was working out of town for a couple weeks. Anyway when I got back a couple days ago I took my modem in and exchanged it for a new one. Everything worked fine for about a day, then it suddenly the problem returned. Then today I tried hooking up another router and it worked for about half an hour before the problem returned. So now I've tried at least 2 of EVERYTHING, and I've looked into pretty much every response on here.

Just the way the problem DISAPPEARED for a while and suddenly came back is confusing me even more. Does this bit of new info help at all? Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks.

ok but i dont care if thts wat happens if i switch routers i just want to know plain and simple--- my ps3 wont reconise the ethernet cable is connected it just doesnt see it. could router fire wall or no port forwarding cause this? idc if you think a site will help i just want knowledge a yes or a no. ive been beating myself up 4 this for like 4 weeks please help
