Solve : router issue???

Answer»

Hello all.

I am having trouble keeping an internet connection on my home office computer.

The router is connected to ANOTHER computer 2 rooms away.  Up until now the connection was fine, however now it is continually searching for a network without any luck.

The router is about 2yrs old(Netgear rangemax wireless router wpn824).  I have tried CHANGING channels, updating the firmware........................anybody have any ideas what else I can try?

THANKS
Do the other two computers work fine? If so, can you try their internet cables?

When did the problem start?

What Windows Version?Yes, it is only the one computer.  It started over the weekend.

I am runnng Windows XPAny recent downloads/installs/hardware changes?
no..................nothing at allIs it wired, or wireless connection
Conect computer in question straight to the modem. Will it work?It is a wireless connection.  The computer in question is not in the same room as the modemI'm afraid, you'll have to carry it to find out more about your problem. Not sure if this helps, but on the computer with the wireless card, I went into the "status" tab and it tells me that there is an invalid IP address.  How do I GET it to recognize my IP address

Jim If these steps below won't work, you'll really need to carry that computer to modem's location...

Turn off computer. Disconnect router, and modem from power source for 30 seconds.
Power them back on.
Restart computer.

If that doesn't work, bypass router, and connect computer straight to the modem.

If that doesn't work...
Go Start>Run (Start search in Vista), type in:
cmd
Click OK.

In Command Prompt WINDOW, type in following commands, and hit Enter after each one:
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

Restart computer.

If that doesn't work...
Go Start>Run (Start search in Vista), type in:
cmd
Click OK.

At Command Prompt, type in:
netsh int ip reset reset.log
Hit Enter.
Type in:
netsh winsock reset catalog
Hit Enter.

Restart computer.

If that doesn't work...
Download, install, and run WinSockFix: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Network-Tweak/WinSockFix.shtml
Restart computer, and check again.
