Solve : Securing my connection..?

Answer»

I just set up a wireless CONNECTION for my cable connection. I've messed with the network settings but even when I change the setup, any computer can see and connect to my connection. Any tips on locking everyone out, would be greatly appreciated! You'll have to log onto the router's admin page and change the settings there.
It differs from router to router (or modem).
What do you have?I have a Belkin Wireless G Router. I've turned off the broadcast of the SSID, put it at WPA-PSK, TKIP and set a key.

Anything else you can think of that I should be doing that's missed? That's the same as I've DONE with my modem/router at home, and no one can see it or connect without knowing the SSID and PSK.
I don't see anything you've missed. How much of a performance hit is enabling WPA Calum ? ?great, thanks!

One thing you might do is limit the number of users that can logon to your network through the router settings.

Good idea. Also, assigning IP addresses manually and disabling dynamic allocation is something I've done.

Umm . . . no idea, LOL. I've not used it without encryption much, and my internet is only 2Mb/sec, and I don't share files across their network.
So I'm not really sure how fast it is as I've never tested it.
When I get home later today, I'll USE Sandra to benchmark it.

Happy to help. Not mentioned: Be sure to change the default user name and password for accessing the router. If the router has remote administration, be sure it is disabled.Ah yes.
Otherwise anyone who CONNECTS can change all the settings.
It's surprising (slightly frightening too) how many people don't even try to secure their network - no encryption, no password, default admin username and password - and then complain when someone connects, even accidentally.
