Solve : Speed difference between PCs over Router?

Answer»

We have three PCs receiving internet over a network using an eithernet/wireless router, one computer downloads about 400 Kb/s slower, wether it is connected wired or wireless.

I have disabled all programs, including anti virus ETC. and have installed updated network, chipset and bios, still have the same results.

The slow PC is the nearest to the router, actually SITTING on the PC, and all PCs are using XP Pro, the slow PC has an Asus P5AD2 -E Premium mother board
with a Pentium 4 3.0 Ghz CPU, 3 MB Ram , the faster PC has an MSI P965 mother board with 2 MB Ram and a 2.8 Ghz Core 2 Duo CPU.

I have tried everything I can think of, any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

BrandyLet's start with telling us what you tried, so we won't repeat your steps.Possibly the computer in question is not optimized to the type of internet connection that you have. Did the computer ever download at the same speed as the others? Any changes to the computer or network? How are you measuring download speed?

Go here and SEE if a settings tweak helps: http://www.dslreports.com/tweaksYou MAY also TRY TCP Optimizer: http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php
