Solve : Splitter??

Answer»

This may be a very simple QUESTION and answer but I wanted to check if anyone could verify this for me.

At my workplace, I have a desktop computer that is connected to the Internet by ADSL. It is wired with the typical ADSL line (which looks like a a larger / wider version of phone line). Recently, I have pulled out the line and put it into my own laptop when I wanted to do work on my own MACHINE.

Now, if I want to have both computers connected to the Internet at the same time, will a splitter do the trick? Or do I need some other piece of equipment? I only have the 1 line to work with that comes out of the wall.

Please ADVISE!I think you should contact your ISP and ask them.Quote from: hockeysticks on September 20, 2011, 08:41:32 AM

Ask your Boss or Supervisor. But the answer is NO, you will need an ethernet switch or ROUTER. Your ADSL modem may not be able to handle more than 2 computers at the same time.Check your ISP to see if they have modems with built in routers. Many do, and that would be a simple solution. This is NOT an ADSL line, this is an RJ45 CAT cable. You need a switch / hub to add more DEVICES. Ask your boss first just in case.
