Solve : Stupid Wireless Networks?

Answer»

I need some help guys

Just moved into my new place. Living with 3 other people. Were using my Linksys WRT150n as our network router. Now all my roomates laptops connect to the network and get smooth internet. But for some reason my desktop does not. I'm using a Linksys WPM300n PCI adapter. I can view the network and even connect to it. But when i do, in the network and sharing center it just says its trying to identify the network and i can not get internet ACCESS only local, which is odd because i used to connect to the same router via the adapter when i lived at home. Im curious if anyone could help me get my connection to this network back.

Thanks in advance.Quote from: jdude421 on January 09, 2009, 01:19:32 AM

That is a similar problem to mine. My WIRED internet often cuts out, but my mom's laptop with a wireless connection to the same router has smooth internet(as long as we are on at different times).

It's not a HUGE deal, but I think it's just because I have a crappy router. It may be because your adapter is using old DNS settings from you old router. Go into the Start menu and click Control Panel (switch to classic view if it isn't already) then click Network Connections then right click on the wireless network that says Connected and click Properties under the list; "This connection uses the following" left click to highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) then click the Properties button.
Click to enable Obtain IP address automatically.
Click to enable Obtain DNS server address automatically.

If these settings were already enabled go into Start menu click Run type in cmd and press Enter.
From this screen type ipconfig /all and hit Enter.
Copy and paste the results here.
It may also be useful if you can do ipconfig /all from one of your house mates machines that can access the internet and post the results here also. For Helpmeh, It may be a crappy Ethernet cable. Try using a different one if you have a spare or try using a plug and play wireless adapter.Microsoft Windows [Version 6.0.6001]

goto your network in control panel, right click on wireless device, select properties, select tcp/ip4, MANUALLY set your dns servers to 4.2.2.2/4.2.2.3 and re-boot and try again...

Good LuckI think Im PRETTY much having the same problem. I followed these steps except I don't KNOW what to put in for own IP address and DNS server..Quote from: mdub007 on January 22, 2009, 07:17:41 PM

before you change anything do an ipconfig /all as above post shows...then just use the IPV4 address [prefered](as long as it's in the 192 range) in that print out with the dns addresses I provided...re-boot and try again

Good Luck
