Solve the following system of equations:3x – 7y + 10 = 0; y – 2x – 3 = 0

Answer»

The given pair of equations are:

3x – 7y + 10 = 0 ……….(i)

y – 2x – 3 = 0 …………..(ii)

From (ii)

y – 2x – 3 = 0

y = 2x + 3 ………………(iii)

Now, substituting y in equation (i) we get,

⇒ 3x – 7(2x + 3) + 10 = 0

⇒ 3x – 14x – 21 + 10 = 0

⇒ -11x = 11

⇒ x = -1

Next, putting the value of x in the equation (iii) we get,

⇒ y = 2(-1) + 3

∴ y= 1

Thus, the value of x and y is found to be -1 and 1 respectively.
