Answer» hello i have a home NETWORK with a PC and a laptop. both of them are using windows XP SP3 PRO. they ping each other easily. the laptop can reach internet trough the PC. there are some shared folder on them. i have turned off firewalls. i can access shared folder on laptop trough PC BUT when i want to access shared folders on PC by the laptop ,the PC request username and password for accessing. i have not set any password on PC and the laptop there are shared folders on PC.
what do you think how to fix itThis is an old problem. Create a new user account on both computers, using the same user name. No password. Reboot and log into that user on both machines. Do the Network wizard over again on both machines. Reboot both machines. Make sure the 'shared documents flooder' on both machines is shared. It should allow users to modify contents. Reboot both machines. In about 60 seconds the two machines should discover each other. If not, search for the other machine. That will help sometimes. Once you get it to work, it should not be necessary to log into the common user name each time. Let me know if it does not work.Double check to see that SHARING is allowed on the illusive 'target' machine.
