Solve : trying to connect a desktop to wireless router?

Answer»

Hey,
I have a d link wireless router hooked up to my bresnan broadband.  I had it directly connected to my desktop and USED the wireless for my LAPTOP.  We moved and rented and old house that has no wiring inside.  I set up the wireless router to the modem just as before.  My laptop connects just fine, but I now have to use my desktop with the wireless function instead of the ethernet cable due to the LACK of wiring.  How do I get my desktop to accept wireless and connect?
Thanks

naturally I'm a little confused...    Do you mean, "How do I get my desktop to connect using wired Ethernet?" Quote from: flyingtxn on August 09, 2009, 04:39:09 PM

buy and add a wireless card to your desktop...then set it up using network setup...Which is the  best to buy and where should I get it?  By the way, thanks for the response.
blockhead,
I can connect it with the wired ethernet, as I did before we moved.  The problem is that I had to mount the modem in the garage (50 feet from the desk) and the guy that OWNS the house wont let me run any wires.  So now I have to figure out how to get the desktop to recognize wireless signal instead of using the ethernet cord.
According to the other respondent, I have to get a wireless card for the desktop.
Thanks

my bad..   Yes, adding a wireless adapter card will suffice....what is the make/model of your desktop computer? It is a gateway ELP 500xwell, I can't seem to find which motherboard is in your system...Can you look inside your computer and tell which kind of slots it has?  ie. PCI, PCIexpress x1, x4, x8, x16 (these are bus widths, the x1 bus width will have a shorter slot and than the x16)

Which wireless technology does your router support?  Is it, 802.11 /b   /g   or  /n  ?

If you don't know give me the make and model of your router..I will take some time this week and take it apart.  Thanks for the help.  I will let you know when I get the info.
Thanks!Dev
