Solve : USB Autorun? |
|
Answer» I have an autorun file for my USB memory stick so it has a custom icon when plugged into the computer. Is there any autorun that forces the memory stick to be run on drive G so no matter what computer i plug it in, it will always be drive G instead of drive I or E or whatever. Good advice, patio. I never really put much thought into this, but it might come in handy.I made an autorun.inf with the following code: [autorun] icon=icon.ico I saved that autorun on the FIRST page of my memory stick and I put an icon in my memory stick as well. Unplug and replug and your memory divice would have a custom icon instead of the icon that looks like a drive or something (defult) This doesn't work with windows 2000 and below. Thanks, Carbon, I'll give that a try. EDIT: Works like a charm. Never realized it would've been so simple.Yeah, I was looking at an autorun for my Halo CD and then i saw 'icon=icon.ico' or something so I did a few trial and erros and manged to get that. It's really nifty having my creepy mug pop up whenever I plug my iPod into SOMEONE's computer. By the way, HTML-Kit has a really handy site for making icons... http://www.chami.com/html-kit/services/favicon/ A lot quicker than making your own. I'm trying to find a way to set up a custom wallpaper for a USB drive, but I'm having no luck. That would be cool to have a custom wallpaper for USB. I think I saw something about that a while back.....ill try and find it again. It would definitely be a nifty feature. Honestly, I can't even remember how to set a wallpaper for a folder on my computer. It was so simple on Windows 98, but I can't think of how to do it on XP. Of course, it's also 6:30 in the morning and I've been up packing all night and I have spent maybe five minutes trying to do this. Ha.I learned how to add a wallpaper background to a folder in Windows XP from the following link: http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,105860-page,2-c,xp/article.htmlThanks for the link, Kip. I couldn't get it to work for me (I couldn't set it as a system file for some reason), but it eventually lead me to this... http://www.winmatrix.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=10039 That program does it automatically. Now I can just edit the desktop.ini file as I please. Now we'll see if I can somehow figure out how to get more than one color of font for my icons like they are on my desktop (white with black border). |
